In Andrew Harrison’s daily drawing practice, he fuses the evocative lyrical grace of japanese calligraphy with arte povera in his use of everyday, often discarded materials.

His wire drawings feed into his sculpture practice.

He is based in Birmingham, the city of a thousand trades. There is a raw force in his use of building materials like concrete, latex & bitumen.

In technique, he references the work of artists as diverse as Matisse, perhaps especially his interiors and cutouts, & Baselitz. The insistence on the provisional, the unfinished, the broken & torn is his own.
